Virtual Emerge – MVP

About

This is a full-stack development that delivered a Minimum Viable Product that is a functional demonstration of a possible solution for Emerge.

Emerge is an event hosted to celebrate and showcase students work they have completed during the semester during their placements. The scope of the project was to create a solution to make a virtual instance of the event, because at present, the event is only hosted in person. The virtual presence was to allow for people (industry, friends, family, faculty) who could not make the physical event a way to join in and view the work completed.

The virtual event was a full-stack development using a PHP, MySQL, SCSS, HTML, and JavaScript. It was made to be hosted on a AMPP stack. It has the ability for a user to create an event, edit an event, add students work, tie in a Lapentor virtual tour to give a tour like experience. The visiting user can use the tour to navigate the rooms provided and click on a ‘board’ to view the poster and short paper on the project. Due to restrictions in Lapentor, the poster and short paper is stored in a Google Drive folder and displayed as an iFrame. Users can also search through students, years, or pathways (software, networking, information systems) and view the students work that way.

The solution was also developed with mobile in mind, allowing for both computers and mobile devices to have access to it.
